Some China interesting facts: The People's Republic of China, or as most people say, China is one of the largest countries in the world. The United States of America is about the same size, while Russia and Canada are the only larger countries. The country counts 9.6 million square kilometers and is 5,026 kilometers wide and has a coastline of approx. 18,000 kilometers.

Famous places in China

Highligts of Chinese culture can be found in the Eastern Part of China. Traditional Chinese culture can be found in cities as Beijing, Xi'an, Hangzhou, Suzhou the 'garden city', Kaifeng, Nanjing or Qufu, the city of Confucius.

In Yunnan and Guizhou, the more traditional regions in the South West of China, you will find a beautiful landscape. Famous places in Chinas West are Kaili, Guiyang, Huangguoshu, Kunming, Lijiang, Dali, Xishuangbanna and Zhongdian.Other places where the landscape is gorgeous are Yangshuo, Yangtze and Guilin, the mountains of Huashan, Taishan, Wutaishan and Zhangjiajie, the waterfalls of Huangguoshu, the plateau of Tibet, or the region of the silk route.

Other famous places in China are modern cities like Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao.



Chinas population

China has more than 1,3 billion residents, which is approx. 20% of the total world population. China has the largest population in the world. As the Western mountains are largely uninhabited, the China population density is the highest in the Eastern part of the country, especially in large cities like Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Chinas climate

As China covers an extensive area, there is quite a variety in climate. The North East and central part have a continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. The South-Eastern part is tropical with a rain season in the summer. Along the coast the temperatures are more moderate, as there is a maritime climate, with quite some rain in the summer. The higher areas in Tibet and Qinghai have a mountain climate with cold winters and moderate warm summers. In the desert and steppe areas of Xinjiang and Central Mongolia have very hot days and extreme cold nights.

Travelling to China

Whether you travel to China for work or for leisure, it is wise to prepare the trip well in advance. Some tips:
  • Check whether you need a visa, and if necessary, apply for it.
  • Check whether you need vaccinations
  • Depending on the destination, take care of clothes for the right occasion and weather conditions
  • Book a flight and accommodation, and if necessary transport. When its the first time you visit China, its wise to have a personal guide, as this person will speak the language and know the way.
  • Last but not least, inform yourself of the Chinese customs.
