How to write a resignation letter, tips, sample and template

How to write a resignation letter is a question which urgently needs to be answered when you want to leave a firm. If you are in this position, you will find here tips on how to write a resignation letter, as well as sample resignation letter, and to make it even more easier for you, a resignation letter template in Word.

TIPS
There can be different reasons for resignation, and so the motivation in a resignation letter could be different. Though it is best to keep the content short and as objective as possible.

Never print the letter on paper with the company letterhead. In this case you are not representing your company, but yourself!

Mention the most important facts, so that fact you resign and per which date.

State the reason of your resignation. For example, this can be moving to another firm, going back to college, due to illness or having a baby. If you leave, because you were unhappy in jor job, it is wise not to mention this in the letter. Instead you can refer to the personal talk with the (personnel) manager for explanation of the reason.

End the letter with a positive remark.

Do not send this letter by mail, if possible. The best thing you can do is planning a meeting with your manager. Tell him/her that you resign, mention the reason and hand over the letter personally. This is a good occassion to express your emotions in words, if you would like so.

Only resign after thorough consideration. Then you are able to motivate your resignation well, and it is easier to stick to your decision.
