Your perfect English to German translation for business correspondence

Your English to German translation will be more professional, using below tips and examples. You don't need to be a German language expert to write a simple letter.

Quite some people in Germany have a good knowledge of English, they will soon understand your message. But they like it when you surprise them with some German words. This will improve your business opportunities, especially when the contacts with your new business relationship are fresh.

English translation to German BUSINESS LETTER
Start your English to German translation of a business letter with the addressee:

Hora GmbH
Herrn und Frau F. Bauer
Heinrichstraße 17
D-01234 VIERSTEIN
GERMANY

1st line: company name
2nd line: contactperson or department. Send it to Herrn (mr.) or Frau (mrs.). In the example both are addressed.
3rd line: streetname + number
4th line: ZIPP code (Start with a D of Deutschland, add a dash, then always 5 digits), space + place-name
5th line: country

Leave a few spaces between the lines and continue with Place and date as follows:

Vierstein, den 12. Juli 2006

calendar Note the word 'den' and the dot after the day. As you can see, the date annotation is: day-month-year.
Choose a month: Januar, Frebruar, März, April, Mai, Juni, Juli, August, September, Oktober, November, Dezember.

Anfrage

Just add the word(s) you would like to use for your subject, in this example: Re: Inquiry

Subsequently, start the opening:

Sehr geehrter Herr, Sehr geehrte Frau, Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,

Dear Sir, Dear Madam, or if you don't know use the 'and' version.

Now you start with the body text; the real message. Find more information on this below.

Conclude your letter as follows:

Mit freundlichen Grüßen,
Hochachtungsvoll,

The first one will do in nearly all occassions. Only in very formal letters, to express when you are angry, the latter one is used. If you have problems with the letter ü, you can use 'ue'. If ß is a problem for your keybord, than you can use 'ss'.

The body text of your English to German translation is depending on the situation:
